Add Computer and Set up OwnerLast Updated: 12/03/2015 Introduced in Verision: 2.0 |
The configuration management database (CMDB) is used to manage assets such as hardware, software, computers, office equipment, furniture, and other items. Assets typically have an associated financial amount.
Once a computer has been added to the CMDB, it can be tracked as an asset, associated with a task, assigned to an account, or associated with another asset.
To add a computer to an account, navigate to the folder CMDB and click the Add Computer button.
Example
In the example we will add a computer and assign the asset to a user.
To begin, we navigate to the folder CMDB.
In the CMDB folder data panel, we click the Add Computer button.
The Add Computer pop-up displays.
In the Name field, we enter a computer name. In the Type drop-down list, we select a type.
To assign an account to the computer, we click the To Account selector.
To save the computer to the CMDB, in the Add Computer pop-up, we click Save.
The computer is added as an asset and the information is available on the CMDB’s entity report which displays on the CMDB folder data panel.
To update information for an asset, such as a computer’s owner, we click the asset name in the CMDB folder data panel.
We click the Asset View link beneath the address bar. The CMDB Asset Details panel displays. We click the All button and select Edit Computer.
The Edit Computer pop-up displays.
We edit the computer’s details, and click Save.
